MERSEREAU

The Mersereau Residence is the first home designed by ERA. Our client had recently relocated to central Virginia and she was looking for a home designed for living in harmony with nature and the new homes being built in the region were more conventional in their approach to the challenges of our changing climate. We started with a floor plan oriented to the south for maximum passive solar gain in the winter and to maximize solar production for the roof mounted PV array. The home is design has an underlaying structure based on a panelized building system that is constructed offsite and then quickly erected on the site built foundation. The shell is then layered with features and building elements maximize performance while mitigating energy consumption and carbon emissions. The process (from first sketch to completion of construction) took just under 1 year. A testament to the collaborative mindset of our client and the build team.
